Corneliu Cristea was awarded with the Excellence Diploma for outstanding contribution to the development of musical art, from the Ministry of Culture of Romania. Corneliu Cristea was born in 1947 in Oradea, Romania. He attended the musical high-school from his hometown. Between 1966 – 1971 he was a student at the “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy from Cluj-Napoca, where he specialised in violin. Being a student, he participated in many competitions and festivals , especially for chamber music, in Romania, Germany and Poland. His musical horizons considerably developed through the contact with his teachers Petre Lefterescu, George Jarosevici, Kurt Mild, Ilse Herbert, Ferdinand Weiss and Stefan Ruha. In 1971 he joined the ’Banat Philharmonic Orchestra in Timisoara, and since 1976 he is part of Oradea Philharmonic Orchestra. Corneliu Cristea is the director of this institution since 1998. He developed a big concert activity as a member of the philharmonic string quartets of Timisoara and Oradea. Also in 1987 he specialized in chamber music at the ’ Ottorino Respighi” Music Academy in Rome, Italy, with the famous teachers Rugiero Ricci and Tatray Vilmos. He had hundreds of concerts in Romania, Italy, Austria, Germany, Portugal, The Azores, China, Japan, Switzerland, The Netherlands, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Vatican, San Marino, Poland, Hungary. Since 1995, he is part of the Europe Symphony Orchestra in Vienna, Austria. With this orchestra he had many opera and ballet performances. He made many CD’s and television recordings.
