Folk Song Session | Traveling around the World with Notes, Feeling Different Customs

Upholding the spirit of rigor, all-inclusiveness, and diversity in the arts, the 11th International Vocal Open Competition in 2024 has introduced Opera Session, Art Song Session, Folk Song Session, Pop Song Session (Mandarin Song Playing and Singing Class), Children’s Song Session and Contemporary A Cappella Session, Choral Session and Musical Theater Class.

With eight sessions and multiple classes, singers of all age groups can find their own spotlight in the stage within it. We welcome both professional vocal students and amateur enthusiasts to participate!

Folk Song

Folk songs belongs to the generations. Influenced by diverse geographical, climatic, linguistic, cultural, and religious factors, there have inevitably arisen a form of expression for human recreation, cultural preservation, and the essence of life throughout history, across all corners of the world, in every era, region, culture, and nation.

The characteristics of folk songs lie in their expression of the thoughts, emotions, will, demands, and aspirations of the laboring people. Folk songs embody the realism and constitute an essential component of the artistic expressions of various cultures. They are the great wisdom of countless people, with musical forms characterized by simplicity, accessibility, and lively flexibility.

【Folk Song Session】

The aim is to promote the cultural diversity of the world. By singing folk songs from around the world, we can better understand and respect the musical heritage of different cultures. This class encourages young vocalists to pass on the history and civilization of folk songs in various forms, expressing their love for their own ethnicities.
